Meet our Team: Digital Marketing Intern

Remote-friendly jobs became more and more popular within recent years, especially due to the global shift towards recognising the pros of flexible work for both companies and employees. It is the future of work for the new generation entering the workforce.

My name is Jess, and I’m part of Generation Z; a generation that lacks the desire to sit at a desk in a corporate office all day. To me, the digital nomad lifestyle isn’t just a dream I see when scrolling through my Instagram feed. Instead, it’s an opportunity to take control of my life and live it on my own terms. By joining acework as a Digital Marketing Intern, I am getting a head start to build my remote career.

How my journey started

Not knowing what I want to study at University, I decided to Au-Pair in France and learn French. During my spare time, I took it to myself to learn more about a field I’m very interested in – Marketing. So over the course of my 10 months in France, I learned (and still continue to do so) different aspects of digital marketing. These include Facebook Ads, Google Analytics, Social media and different types of content creation. My goal this past year was to launch my own travel blog, and also gain some experience in the digital marketing industry. I currently write for my own blog, in addition to others within the wedding industry. I am also a copywriter for a travel start-up and a nutritionist food blogger.

My broad interest in the digital marketing field and motivation to learn as much as possible meant that I was able to land a few internships within different niches – one of which is at acework. Luckily, digital marketing is one of the most remote-friendly career paths at the moment.

A change in lifestyle: Welcome to the digital nomad world

As an avid travel lover, it’s also difficult for me to stay in one place. I love to explore and discover new places I’ve never been to before. I’m currently exploring as much of Europe as possible before I go to discover more international waters. I was born in Latvia, with most of my family still there, but raised in the UK on the south coast. I still visit Latvia and often stay for the summer months, especially after leaving England a year ago. In addition, I have also worked in Greece before I set up my base in Lille, France. After a recent trip, I fell in love with Copenhagen and its fun and modern way of life. I’m hoping for another chance to stay a lot longer next time and learn why they’re often called the happiest people on earth.

Being a digital nomad is my long-term goal. I’m lucky to have joined a remote-first company that focuses on connecting remote talent with companies on a career base rather than freelancing. This is a huge step up for anyone looking into being a digital nomad. I can’t wait to learn more from the team here at acework.
